World Cupper

Brazilian Coach Felipe Scolari:
"We told the players that being second is like being last as far as Brazil is concerned," he said.

"But we wanted to come first by playing with joy and fun and this is what we have done.

"I feel the joy and happiness of our victory and I want the whole Brazilian nation to remember the images of these boys playing with joy, and we will all celebrate together.

"We have done our job, and it is a job that has taken a lot of hard work. It is a historic moment.

"The World Cup is coming home, and for Brazil to be champions again is unforgettable."

Scolari added: "We have shown great individual skills and Ronaldo was again outstanding, but it is time to talk about our defence, who again conceded no goals in the World Cup final.

"It has been very much criticised, but in my view it is the best defence in the world because they have excellent technical and tactical skills.

"Germany played as we expected, strong and powerfully, but we had the people like Ronaldo who could bring an individuality to a situation, and this helped us achieve our goal.

"It is a marvellous feeling to be world champions, and it is a tribute to the strength of this group of players that we have done it. They are very united and determined.

"We have won seven matches and beaten good teams, so we feel we are worthy champions.

"But we are also grateful for all the goodwill we have been shown, both by the Brazilian people and while we have been here."

Germany coach Rudi Voeller:
"There is no doubt Brazil deserved to win the World Cup. They showed their worth, not just in this match but throughout the entire tournament," said Voeller.

"They are very strong, tough, have a good goalkeeper in Marcos and also have players who can produce individual brilliance such as Ronaldo, who was a big difference here.

"Brazil have a wonderful team, and while I felt we had our moments at the start of the second half, we tired in the end and we must congratulate Brazil on a deserved victory."

Voeller added: "We can be happy with what we have achieved, although when you reach the World Cup final you want to go the extra mile.

"We had many injured players, but we fought our way through and have achieved good things.

"We felt we had the game under control in the first half and we created a number of chances, particularly at the start of the second half.

"But in contrast to previous games, we never got the vital first goal to give us a lead, and as the game went on our players started to look tired.

"This meant we were in difficulties against a Brazil side that is so fast and so strong. Brazil then took advantage and played very well.

"They showed flashes of individual brilliance, wall passes and quick passing movements, and in the end they got the goals, as they have done before and we cannot complain about their victory."

Brazilian player Ronaldo:
"The goal crowned my work and the work of the whole team," he said.

"I worked for two and a half years trying to recover from that injury and today God reserved this for me and the Brazilian team. I am very happy."

He dedicated his goals to "my family in the first place and my physiotherapist, who fought with me without knowing that we would be here two years later."

"The whole squad has worked very hard," he said. "It's a fantastic feeling to be a Brazilian tonight.

"We are all so happy to have landed this fifth championship."

Brazilian player Cafu:
"He suffered so much for two years. Well done! We are really happy - it's a great moment," he said.

"I feel pleasure, a joy that the people of Brazil are feeling now. The joy of knowing we did our job, but it was full of very hard work," he said.

"Brazil back as world champions - that is not something we can forget.

"The secret was the unity of the boys, they all concentrated on one main objective. We were feeling the positive energy of the support of the Brazilian people."
