| For the 1st time I was actually very prepared for this World Cup and actually did my own world cup diary. Leaving Heathrow at noon on the 1st of June, we eventually arrived at Narita, Tokyo's main airport at 9:45 the 2nd June - the same day as England v Sweden. Plenty off time to make the 6:30pm kick off you would think! Went with Gingertours, always doing it on the cheap, the areoflop air crew offered a measly one, yes ONE drink from Heathrow to Moscow. This went down very well with the 100 England fans on the plane. I think not!! Then again they do sell vodka at 3 dollars a bottle in the duty free so when we left Moscow the bottles of vodka were flowing. Being a very reserved young man I just went along with the flow and got hammered! At the time this seemed a very good idea, in the long run it was not. The plane was rocking after a hour, the crew had lost it's battle with our renowned fans. On the drink issue after a couple of fist fights with other irate passengers the captain threatened to land the plane in some Soviet shithole. This had the desired effect and the younger members of the renowned barmy army relented and slept the vodka off. Well yours truly continued to drink with my newly made friend. A Japanese business man. I gave him a Rovers badge, he gave me more vodka. Eventually I slipped into a drink induced sleep only waking when a Japanese cleaner woke me at noon, 3 hours after landing in Japan. Shit! My plans out of the window, would I make kick-off? Would I get through customs?? Waggy |
