| Match Summary - Belgium |
Bart Goor and Emile Mpenza scored the goals which enabled co-hosts Belgium to launch Euro 2000 with a 2-1 win over Sweden in Brussels.
Goor fired Belgium ahead two minutes before half-time after catching former Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry defender Roland Nilsson in possession.
Mpenza then volleyed home a spectacular second a minute into the second-half to leave the Swedes staring at defeat.
Belgium goalkeeper Filip De Wilde threw the Swedes a lifeline when he gifted a goal to Celtic midfielder Johan Mjallby but they could not force an equaliser.
