Sunderland fans are fast running out of superlatives to describe "Super Kev". A powerful, pocket-sized forward, who has a shoot on sight policy in front of goal, possesses electrifying pace, is adept at holding the ball up, and oozes self confidence, Kevin missed nearly four months of last season with a worrying persistent toe injury, yet returned to bag 25 goals, including four at Bury in April which clinched Sunderland's return to the Premiership. His partnership with Niall Quinn is already legendary on Wearside, and he celebrated another excellent campaign in which he won the Nationwide "Player of the Month" award for March and a First Division championship medal, before winning his first full England cap against Hungary in Budapest in April. Having scored a total of 60 goals in only two seasons at the club, Kevin has continued to score goals at will even after moving up a division. The striker also added to his England caps when appearing against Belguim on his home ground, at Sunderland, in October. Working well in partnership with Niall Quinn he has already taken his goal tally to 18 before missing a few games with a groin injury. However he was back in January keen to add to that total and force his way into the England, Euro 2000 squad. His goal total has now moved over the 20 mark.
