Cole's Injury Shatters Dream West Ham United FC midfielder Joe Cole's season is over after he suffered a broken leg in last Saturday's 2-1 win over Derby County FC. The accident means the 18-year-old is out of contention for England's squad for EURO 2000™. Cole was carried off the pitch at Pride Park but an initial X-ray did not reveal a break. He was still in pain, however, and a second scan on Wednesday showed the fracture. "It revealed a slight crack to the fibia in his right leg," a club spokesman said. "This will effectively rule him out until the end of the season." Cole has played regularly for the West Ham first team this season and has represented England at school, youth and under-21 level. The uncapped 18 year-old had been rated as an outside chance to make Kevin Keegan's final 22 for the EURO 2000™ Final Tournament. |
