| Match Summary - England |
Captain Alan Shearer answered his critics and led by example with the crucial goal in Charleroi to give England genuine hope of reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2000.
The Newcastle striker netted eight minutes into the second half, heading in a David Beckham free-kick for his 29th goal at full international level - and his first in eight games.
It means England only need a point from Tuesday's clash with Romania in Charleroi to make sure of a place in the last eight and a meeting with Italy.

| Match Summary - Romania |
With the 39-year-old Lothar Matthaus forming part of a three-man defensive unit that played like strangers, Romania took a fifth minute lead.
The Germans then suffered a torrid 20 minutes as a series of through balls left keeper Oliver Kahn totally exposed.
But on 29 minutes, Germany grabbed an equaliser from out of nowhere.
Markus Babbel and Thomas Linke worked their way down the right and when Paulo Rink passed square to Mehmet Scholl, there seemed to be little on.
But the Bayern Munich playmaker rifed a left-foot shot into the top corner with keeper Bogdan Stelea rooted to the spot apparently unsighted.
