England haven't really done that well in the Euro Championships.
In three tournaments, they have qualified only to find themselves going home after the group stages. The most dissapointing of these was probably when England didn't qualify for the second round in 1988. They lost all three qualifiers even though england performed well in the qualifiers.
Two major dissapointments have been when England reached the final stages but didn't manage to win. Firstly, in 1968, England lost 1- 0 to Yugoslavia in the semi-finals. As a consolation, England did finish 3rd.
Even worse, was the defeat by Germany in the semifinals in 1996. England started well, with Shearer scoring the opening goal but germany soon equalised. The score stayed level all the way through the game so it went to penalties. Gareth Southgate had the dissapointment of missing the important penalty kick sending Germany though to the final.
So this year, England have a chance to get one over on Germany by beating them in the group stages.

Below is England's record against all the other teams in the tournament.
