Tony Adams has been a regular in the England squad for many years. He has already appeared in two European Championships - Germany in 1988 and England in 1996 - and the World Cup in France. If Adams is fit in the summer then he will surely be one of England's back four. Long-serving Arsenal captain whose 1998-99 season was disrupted by a series of back and ankle injuries which caused him to miss a number of games at both club and international level. Despite this, his incredible drive and determination helped him to return to fitness and make an essential contribution to the soundest defence in the Premiership. A commanding, passionate, and influential figure, he is a natural leader at the highest level. Again proved to be extremely solid both on the ground and in the air, and he continued to get forward whenever he could. His height and strength make him very dangerous at set pieces, where he was always likely to score or create goals, and within a period of ten days he scored crucial goals in the home victories over Manchester United and Panathinaikos. Despite his injury problems, he was still an automatic choice for England. Off the field he was a tremendous motivator and, following Arsenal's defeat by Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final replay, he quickly roused a number of his dejected team mates. Tony missed the opening month of the season but since then has retained his spot in the heart of the Gunners defence for virtually all of the games to the Christmas period. However he did need to rest a back injury which has led him to miss a few matches since as Arsene Wenger rotates his squad. Still a rock at the back and leads by example.
